Ma première pensée va à Christian Raoult créateur du trophée Eric Milroy challenge Black watch et qui se bat contre la maladie. My first thought goes to creative Christian Raoult of the trophy Eric Milroy challenge Black watch and which fights against the disease.

Le sol bouge encore à Contalmaison, à Longueval et à Delville Wood et les corbeaux n’ont toujours pas quittés les lieux. The ground still moves in Contalmaison, à Longueval à Delville Wood and the crows have still not left the place.

En Belgique, dans les Hauts-de-France et dans la Somme, les grandes nations du rugby, leurs soldats, nos alliés ont laissé leur vie ici, pour que nous vivions dans une France libre.
In Belgium, in Hauts-de-France and in the battle of the Somme the great rugby nations, their soldiers, our allies, left their lives here, so that we could live in a free France.

L‘Ecosse ma préférée a ses sépultures éparpillées dans les différents cimetières leurs corps et leurs âmes disparus.
Scotland my favorite, have their burials here their bodies and lost souls are scattered across different cemeteries.

L’association Mémoire de Rugby Events a pensé qu’il serait utile de tirer un trait d’union entre notre passion pour ce sport et ce pays mais également pour faire vivre la mémoire de nos anciens.
Memoire de rugby Events thought that it would useful to draw a link between our passion for this sport and this country but also to keep the memory of our past alive.

La rudesse de la vie professionnelle actuelle, l’individualisme, le manque de solidarité me font craindre d’une certaine manière l’avenir.
The necessities of modern life, the individualism and the lack of solidarity, make me fear for the future.

De cette crainte, nous avons voulu en tirer une force, le bien vivre. From this fear we wanted to derive strength, to live life well.

31 internationaux Ecossais de rugby et 22 Français sont morts pendant la grande guerre.
31 Scottish Internationals and 22 French died in the great war.
21 sur le front Ouest 21 on the western front (among us 3 in The Somme)

En ce jour de commémoration, je veux rendre hommage au Major Gordon Elphinstone ex international de rugby écossais, 3/4 centre qui avait battu la France en 1913 et avait marqué 2 essais aux côté d’Eric Milroy.
On this day of remembrance, I want to pay tribute to Major Gordon Elphinstone ex international of Scottish rugby, centre which had beaten France in 1913 and had marked 2 tries with his teammate Eric Milroy.

En plus d’un excellent rugbyman, il était un valeureux soldat, blessé gravement à deux reprises. Alors qu’il pouvait être réformé et rester en Ecosse, il a décidé de revenir sur le front dans la SOMME pour combattre avec les siens.
Besides an excellent rugby player, there were brave soldier, wounded person seriously twice. While he could be reformed and stay in Scotland, he decided to return on the front in the SOMME to fight with his.

Sa troisième blessure lui sera fatale, il décédera le 30/08/2018 à Daours. Je veux rendre hommage à la commune Daours trop souvent oubliée du reste de la ligne de front et pourtant très utile pour accueillir les blessés de toutes nationalités.
His third wound will be fatal to him, he will die on 30/08/2018 to Daours. I want to pay tribute in the municipality Daours too often forgotten besides by the frontline and nevertheless very useful to welcome the wounded persons of any nationalities.

Nos frères Ecossais de la « Auld Alliance » ont retenu toute notre intention par leur histoire, leur jeune âge et le sacrifice qu’ils ont fait malgré eux à notre pays.
Our Scottish brothers of the Auld Alliance have captured our attention through their story, their young age and the ultimate sacrifice they have made to our country.

Parce que nous voulons valoriser plus et montrer l’Ecosse, nous avons organisér en partenariat avec la Mairie de Contalmaison et l’Association « Alliance France Ecosse » , le Challenge Eric Milroy en 2017 et 2018 et de créer le trophée Auld Alliance dans le tournoi des six nations.
Because we want to highlight Scotland, we have organized, in partnership with the City hall of Contalmaison and the Association « Alliance France ECOSSE », the Eric Milroy Challenge in 2017 and 2018, and created The Auld Alliance Trophy since 2018 give at the winner of 6 nations match France v Scotland in memory of Eric Milroy, Marcel Burgun and all Scottish and french rugby players died in WW1.

Je veux remercier Julian Hutching de L’association Alliance France Écosse, et à Mme Patricia LEROY, maire de Contalmaison pour son engagement sans faille.
