Patrick Charles Bentley Blair

Patrick Charles Bentley Blair (died 6 July 1915, aged 24) was a Scottish rugby union player. He was killed in World War I.

He played for Cambridge University RFC and was capped for Scotland in 1912-13. Second Lieutenant Patrick Charles Bentley Blair, the Rifle Brigade, fell in action at Ypres on July 6, 1915, aged 23. Born at Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire, on July 18, 1891, Blair was educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh (1903-10) and at King’s College, Cambridge (1910-14). He was a member of the Fettes XV for three years, and played four times against Oxford in the packs of 1910-13, thus taking part in the last four Inter-’Varsity matches played. His five International matches were : v South Africa, November 1912 ; and v Wales, Ireland, England, and France in 1913. Blair was a truly magnificent specimen of young manhood, standing six feet, and weighing fully thirteen stones, and splendidly proportioned.

He played with Eric Milroy against France in 1913, Scotland won 21-3.

He died at Ypres on 6 July 1915, aged 23, and is buried in Talana Farm Cemetery.
